Background

“Urban environments are teeming with wildlife. The spaces closest to us: our homes, gardens, backyards, neighboring undeveloped lots, roadsides, and trash dumps are shared with animals who have adapted to living in cities.”

Most urban wildlife are classified as synanthropes, or species that exist between domestic and wild, who benefit from living in close proximity to humans and the somewhat artificial environments that are created around them. At night, as night shift workers begin their day, a rich ecosystem and parallel world of nocturnal animals emerges.

Situated on the Sharpstown Golf Course, The Rendezvous preserves the daytime use of the course, yet transforms it at night into a place of community and intermingling for humans and critters alike. It aims to increase utilization and accessibility of the largest green space in the area for all, inspiring discovery and learning, fostering compassion and understanding, while also providing a nighttime green space amenity for night shift workers, animal enthusiasts, and the local community.
